The Care Professional Screening Process
Apex PROaupair’s specially recruited candidates are professionals and our standards for admission are extremely high. Our application and vetting process is very detailed so families have a comprehensive understanding of a candidate’s background, experience and skills.

Apex PROaupair's application process includes:
- Detailed application with personal and professional history
- Photographs (and optional video)
- Childcare experience and hours accumulated
- Criminal background check
- Professional references (verified by Apex PROaupair)
- Personal references (verified by Apex PROaupair)
- Proof of education and degree
- Physical exam and medical history
- Apex PROaupair personal interview
- English language assessment
- Personality assessment using Dr. Harman’s Personality Analysis “The Color Code”
U.S. Department of State Requirements
In addition to Apex PROaupair’s application and screening process, every candidate must also meet the requirements set forth by the U.S. Department of State that requires au pairs to:
- Be between the ages of 18 and 26 years old
- Be a non-U.S. citizen
- Be proficient in English
- Have no criminal background
- Have completed secondary school
- Be in good physical and mental health
- Have at least 200 hours of experience caring for children under the age of two (if placed with a family having children under the age of two)
Since Apex PROaupair sources candidates through our vast network of European universities, vocational training schools, hospitals and referrals from organizations such as the German Red Cross, our host families can count on an extremely high caliber of live-in childcare. Our application and vetting process is very detailed and thorough so families have a comprehensive understanding of a candidate’s credentials to care for children.
