Warning About Scams in the Care Professionals / Au Pair Sector
Be Cautious on Facebook and Other Social Media Platforms
Do not engage with a host family before having an interview with a reputable agency!
Scammers often pose as families actively looking for an Au Pair or Care Professional. They use email addresses not belonging to official agency domains and request payments.
Important: Never send money before a personal interview has taken place.
How to Spot a Scam Attempt
- Apex Social and ProAuPair never ask for money upfront!
It is a scam if you receive an email or message requesting a payment in advance. - Scam emails can look very convincing
Even if an email looks professional or includes the name “Apex Social” or “ProAuPair,” it may still be fake. - Always check the sender's email address carefully – Official emails from Apex Social and ProAuPair always come from our verified domains.
- Apex Social and ProAuPair will never contact you out of the blue
We only reach out to you if you’ve first contacted us—through an application, form submission, or other direct inquiry. - No application process without in-depth conversations and clear information
Before any payment (e.g., for a visa or program registration) is discussed, we’ll have detailed conversations with you.
You will receive all important information firsthand and always have the chance to ask questions. - Apex Social and ProAuPair do not accept Care Professionals under the age of 18. If you receive a message offering participation to someone under 18, it’s a scam.
- Apex Social and ProAuPair will never contact you out of the blue
What to Do If You Spot or Fall Victim to a Scam
If you receive a suspicious message or have already become involved in a scam, contact the following organizations:

- Better Business Bureau (BBB) Scam Tracker: www.bbb.org/scamtracker
Also, report the incident directly to us at scam@apex-social.org. Please include the URL or email address where you found the host family or received a payment request so we can help warn others.
