Why is it so important to know your professional au pair’s (and your own) color? As apex PROaupair CEO and Founder Susan Asay puts it,

In times of stress or extraordinary circumstances, a person usually falls back to their natural color, or their natural motive, because that’s where they feel comfortable. When a candidate comes from abroad to the United States, they go to their limit and that’s the time where they fall back to their natural color.

Why do Yellows make great professional au pairs? Because a Yellow’s main motivator is fun, otherwise known as joyfulness. From The Color Code,

Yellow are the fun lovers. Fun: the joy of living life in the moment, is what motivates and drives these people. They bring great gifts of enthusiasm and optimism and are generally charismatic, spontaneous, and sociable.

Yellows can also be described as:
-happy
-good hearted
-adventurous
-early adopters
-curious
-forgiving

These are great traits to seek in your professional au pair because Yellows may have an easier time adapting to their new environment than Blue, Red, or White professional au pairs. Of course, it’s good to be adventurous and happy when working with children full-time every day!

With these exciting qualities come some challenges that Yellows face. Yellows can be:
-impulsive
-easily distracted
-scattered
-self-centered

To create an environment where your Yellow professional au pair will succeed, try these tips:
-Give your au pair a set routine and clear responsibilities
-Provide positive constructive feedback and motivation regularly
-Once your Yellow professional au pair has settled in, allow her to have some creativity in determining what activities to do with the kids
-Go on family outings with your Yellow professional au pair where you can all ‘play’ together (Ex. mini golf)
-Give her freedom with her time when she’s not working

Yellow professional au pairs will bring light and levity to your household more than any other Color! Be sure to enjoy the unique perspective on life that your Yellow professional au pair has.

About The Color Code
The Color Code Personality Assessment test, created by Dr. Taylor Hartman, is a tool that apex PROaupair uses to help host families and professional au pairs understand how they may interact with one another according to their personality type, or “Color”. All host families and professional au pairs take this test before matching- in fact, all of apex PROaupair’s staff also know their own color. For a refresher on The Color Code, visit our web page here.

If you are a current host family or professional au pair, you can review your results in your profile and by logging into The Color Code website.
